Throwback Thursday Post #2- Catfish Festival Edition
Have you ever wondered about the story behind the LOVE letters that are next to Keith Livens Auditorium? Their debut was at the Catfish Festival in 2022. They were created by students in our tech department, designed and painted by students in our art department, and now are on Choose Love postcards that are circulating the WORLD! It truly takes a community.

Happy Throwback Thursday! Each Thursday throughout Choose Love Awareness Month, we will be sharing memories of students using the Choose Love Formula (Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action = Choosing Love).
This week’s featured memory? Potosi’s 2022 Catfish Festival! Scarlett Lewis, founder of the Choose Love Movement joined us as she co-marshalled the parade (with student, Grace Eastlick who developed the logo and motto) and led activities at the firehouse. It was an amazing day...so amazing that we'll have 2 posts today to remember the experience.

Last week, our staff participated in a professional development session focused on the architecture of our brains. They learned about how stressors impact how our brain is formed, and how supports can help promote positive brain development. Positive support provided by families, educators, and our community are essential for the success of our youth. Thanks to The Grant County Trauma Project for offering an amazing professional Development opportunity!

The Potosi Middle School Research Expo was held on January 31st as a culmination of a 5-week research unit in sixth grade. Students were able to select a topic of their choice and take notes, collect primary and secondary sources, annotate a bibliography, and create an exhibit displaying their thesis and research. This work was shared with visiting elementary classes and community members, with six students winning awards for Most Eye-Catching Exhibit, Strongest Research/Thesis, Best Student Analysis, Most Extensive Bibliography, Best Use of Primary Sources, and Above and Beyond Exhibit! Some students also entered their work in the local National History Contest, as well.

Potosi Middle School held its 11th annual National History Day contest last week with the theme of "Rights and Responsibilities in History". Individual and group exhibits, websites, research papers, group performances, and a group documentary were presented to judges, with the top scoring projects advancing to the UW-LaCrosse regional contest in March.
