The Class of 2023 is graduating this year, meaning lots of decisions are being made and futures are being planned. There is a wide variety of paths these seniors are taking. Some have their futures planned and some aren’t entirely sure.

Cooper Emler, a 17-year-old senior at Potosi High School plans to study Agriculture Business at Southwest Technical College beginning in the fall of 2023. He does not have a specific career picked out, but is open to anything that comes his way if it has to do with the agriculture business. This degree plan took him a while to figure out, but since there will be plentiful job opportunities, he believes this fits him the best. Cooper currently works at Midwest Motorsports in Kieler, Wisconsin, and for his grandpa on his farm. He doesn’t plan on staying at Midwest Motorsports through the summer but plans on continuing the farm job to give him more experience with that type of work. He plans to work hard and save money. In five years he is not sure where he will be; all he knows is that he will be working hard.

Brooke Traver is an 18-year-old senior who has been at Potosi since 4K. Brooke plans to attend UW-Stout for computer science. She believes an IT Specialist career fits her best. Initially, she thought she wanted something in engineering or art, but she believed the IT path was a safer option. Brooke is currently employed at Subway in Lancaster, WI. In the summer, she plans to keep working but still make time for other hobbies and events she attends. She is also planning on starting her own art business, which would include selling prints, and stickers. In five years she is hoping to have a stable job with something she enjoys.

Preston Steiner is an 18-year-old senior at Potosi. Preston is planning to study Business Administration at Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, IA. He wants to take his education from Marshalltown and possibly transfer to a four-year university to finish the degree if it feels right. He does not have a specific career choice picked out but believes he has the skills and abilities to hold a sales position. He didn’t always know he wanted to do this; he explained how this idea picked him. He said his skills matched up with a career choice like this. The big part of why he is attending there is that he has committed to playing baseball there. He chose there because he connected with the coach well and believes that college will give him more exposure to other schools and clubs after he graduates. He will have a different experience than most as he will be a student-athlete. He currently helps blow up inflatables as his job and plans to keep that through the summer. Along with working this summer, baseball is one of, if not the main focus. He wants to build his strengths and skills so he can compete at a collegiate level. In five years he sees himself graduating, getting a sales job if he stays with it, and working to live on his own. He shared an inspirational quote he lives by, saying, “chase your dreams, be unrealistic.”

Logan Kruser, a senior at Potosi High School is interested in being an electrician. He will be doing an electrical apprenticeship through RB Electric in Dubuque, Iowa. RB Electric wires residential and commercial buildings. An electrician's job is something that he has always wanted to do. He is unemployed and plans to stay that way until his apprenticeship starts in August of 2023. In 5 years he sees himself still working at RB Electric, while potentially renting or buying a house.

Trevin Davis is a 17-year-old senior at Potosi. He began his career at Potosi this year. Trevin has a slightly different path than everyone else. Trevin is enlisting in the Air Force. He’s planning on doing special warfare, and combat support. The specific job he wants is to be a part of the military police. Trevin didn’t really know what he wanted to do, so he just decided to enlist. His summer plans consist of doing basic training. Basic Training for Trevin will begin June 1st, 2023. In five years he sees himself being somewhere in the military.

It is clear that everyone is different. Cooper plans to earn a 2-year degree while working. Brooke will study for four years while having her own small business on the side. Preston will be a college athlete and plans to transfer on to a four year once his first two years are finished. Logan plans on doing an apprenticeship and staying there for the future. Trevin is enlisting in the Air Force and hopes to become a part of the military police. It is safe to say it is a pretty diverse class with a wide range of ambitions.
