Students often get their first job when they are in high school. I got my first job at the Potosi Brewery this year. I was nervous at the interview, but it went well and I got hired on the spot.
At Walden University, they state, “Nearly 30% of high school students are employed in a job for at least a portion of the school year. For many, working a job provides spending money for a social life.” Students want experience doing different jobs and making money.
Mrs. Meier, my high school special education teacher, found a job for me at the Potosi Brewery doing dishes. I was excited for the opportunity to start working and making money.
I like working there because it gives me job experience and I can make money while I am in high school so I can have some for things like a car and for things like college.
When I rinse off the dishes I put them through the dishwasher and when it gets done, I let them dry, and then I put them away where they go. I also rinse off the silverware and then put them in the dishwasher, and when they get done in the dishwasher, I put them in this tray and I put spoons with spoons and forks with forks and knives with knives. Then I put them through the dishwasher again, and when they get done the second time, one of the servers puts them in a tray, and then I wash more dishes and cups.
I know someone else that works there when I don’t have to in the afternoon shifts, and he is a high school student like me. One time when I went to work one of the cooks said that the other student said some good things about me and I was surprised about that, so I know he is trying to make a good impression for me.
In the kitchen, there are usually two or three cooks, but most of the time it is usually two cooks who are older than me and very nice. Every day, one of the cooks plays music on their playlist, and then another cook plays music on their playlist, so it is never boring.
I am glad to have this job. I recommend working at the Brewery because it is a good place to start a job and people always have a fun time while they are at work.
