In high school, senior year is the perfect time to visit colleges and explore your options. Whether the college you want to attend is far away or near home, what you choose should reflect your goal for your college experience. I interviewed three Potosi High School seniors about their college visits and planning.

Amanda Roling described her time visiting colleges. Amanda visited a few different colleges including Clemson University, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. Amanda had to travel 14 hours to tour Clemson University, where Amanda's aunt works as a food services manager for all of the dining services on campus. She explained her reasons for considering Clemson, along with schools closer to home. “Clemson is far enough away to the point where I would be making my own decisions and doing things by myself with the independence you might not get in high school, but it's also close enough to my aunt to where I'd have a support system if I needed it,” said Amanda. Amanda has high hopes towards Clemson and I look forward to seeing if her dreams come to life.

Anna Kruser plans on attending a private college called Viterbo University. Viterbo, unlike Clemson University, is much closer to home for Anna, even though it will still be a two-hour drive to Viterbo, which is located in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. On this college visit, Anna was assigned to a random group to walk around campus. Anna and everyone else that was on the tour was not allowed to touch anything and had to wear a mask at all times. Regardless of whether Covid-19 forces Viterbo to become virtual, Anna will still want to attend this school.  Anna will attend this school to become a nurse through their renowned nursing program.

Lilly Post plans on attending the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse, where Lilly will also have a two-hour drive from home. Lilly likes the University of Lacrosse so much that she actually visited it twice. Lilly visited this college once in the summer and once on a day off of school. Lilly plans on living on campus in one of the many dorms that the college has. Lilly has hopes of becoming an athletic trainer in the future and is willing to work hard to make sure those dreams come true.

Picking the right college for you is a hard choice that can have an impact on the rest of your life. These three high school seniors have narrowed down their choices to better their lives and their futures to be the best they can be.
