Jayden Steitz is a second year teacher at Potosi High School who has quickly begun making an impact in the classroom. He started during the 2024-2025 school year as the technology education teacher, stepping into the role previously held by Dakota Bockenhauer. Students have already begun to experience Stietz’s passion for the subject, as he focuses on preparing them for future careers and certifications in a variety of different fields.
One way that Steitz is helping students prepare for careers after high school is by teaching them the courses to earn many different certifications through The National Coalition of Certification Centers. NC3 is a nonprofit organization that is based in Pleasant Prairie, WI. Through these programs, students at Potosi High School have the opportunity to gain credentials that can set them apart in both college and the workforce. These certifications not only validate their skills but also give them confidence in their abilities as they move forward.
In order to teach these courses to students, Steitz had to be certified in the courses himself, ensuring that he fully understood the technical skills and the real-world applications behind them. Steitz is certified in multimeter use, Snap-on torque tools, and Starrett levels 1 through 6. Multimeter certifications provide training on digital multimeters for industries like automotive, HVAC, and manufacturing. Snap-on torque tool certifications provide hands-on training to ensure proficiency in operating, selecting, and applying mechanical and electronic torque instruments. Starrett levels 1 through 6 provide training in high precision leveling, machinery setup, and verification of flatness/straightness. These certifications have allowed him to build a strong foundation of knowledge on how to properly use, read, and apply various types of equipment, which he is now passing on to his students after completing all his certifications.
Getting students these certifications opens the door to a wider range of job opportunities for the students. For those interested in engineering and other technical fields, the knowledge gained through these courses provides a strong foundation for future studies. Students are able to enter college with a better understanding of key concepts, which can make challenging coursework more manageable. In many cases, this head start can save students time and allow them to focus on more advanced material once they reach college. For students going into trade schools, getting these certifications provides hands-on experiences with real-world tools, improving on-the-job productivity. These certifications benefits students for their future careers while also building valuable skills.
