“I think this is going to be a really great year, and I am so excited to work with these girls.” This is what Ruby Roe said about coaching the Potosi-Cassville JV softball team.
Cassville High School alumna Ruby Roe and Potosi High School alumna Delany McKillip have both taken on coaching roles for the 2026 JV softball team. Although both are currently attending UW–Platteville, they have made time in their schedules to return and support the Potosi-Cassville softball program.
McKillip, last year’s first baseman, is studying elementary education at UW–Platteville. She is excited about the opportunity to coach and make a positive impact on others’ lives. While she admits to some nerves as a first-time coach, she is eager to help players improve their softball skills. As she balances college and coaching, McKillip aims to strengthen her time-management skills and stay organized to succeed in both areas. Since graduating, she has continued working, spending time with friends and family, and staying focused on her education.
This summer, Delany plans to continue working at Morningside Assisted Living and spending time with her friends and family. One date she is specifically looking forward to is her sister's wedding in August, where she will be the maid of honor.
Roe, last year’s third baseman, is studying environmental science and conservation at UW–Platteville. “When the season ended last year, I knew I wanted to stay a part of the program,” she said. “I love this group of girls and this team, so now I can help them by coaching and supporting them in this new season.” To balance school and coaching, Roe plans to set aside dedicated time for her coursework. During practices and games, she will focus fully on the team, while reserving the rest of her time for her college responsibilities.
After graduating from high school, Roe continued working on the maintenance crew at Cassville High School and spent time vacationing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This summer, she plans to work as a park ranger at Wyalusing and Nelson Dewey State Parks to gain experience related to her major.
Both Delany and Ruby have already contributed a lot to the softball program, and with their eagerness to give their support, there is no doubt they will do well as coaches. Their recent experience as players, combined with their passion for the game, allows them to connect with the team in a unique and meaningful way.
