Potosi High School's past with student teachers has always been great. As the second semester is starting, Mrs. Brunton's student teacher, Mr. Weir is keeping the tradition of student-teachers at the high school great.
Mr. Weir grew up in Janesville, WI where he attended high school at Janesville’s Craig High School. He enjoyed growing up in that area because there were many fast-food restaurants and plenty of fun things to do. In high school, he participated in cross country, track and field, FFA, and basketball. He is very tall, at 6’6”. Another fun fact about Mr. Weir is that he cuts corn mazes in the summer/fall. He helps cut at least three mazes a year. He cut for Skelley’s Farm Market in Janesville.
Mr. Weir attends UW- Platteville. He majors in agriculture and technology education. “I chose this career path because there are a lot of job opportunities, and I also like working with students.” He is excited to start his career. “I chose UW-Platteville because I liked the small classes, I was able to run cross country and track, and it was fairly cheap.” He is happy with his decision.
Mr. Weir pre-student taught at Belmont High School, where he observed the classes rather than actually teaching them. He teaches a majority of Mrs. Brunton's classes now. He currently teaches fIsh and wildlife, environmental science, and companion animal science. He is going to be at Potosi High School for quarter three only, rather than the whole semester. He is in Mrs. Brunton's room every day, all day, unless he has to leave early for track practice or a track meet. He runs long-distance races on the UW-P track team. He enjoys running a lot.
Wier will graduate from UW-P this May. He plans on moving back closer to home with hopes of eventually finding a high school teaching job around his hometown. Mr. Wier is a great addition to Potosi for the short time he is here, and he is doing a great job.
