William Tobin’s football journey began in 6th grade at Platteville Schools, where he was not officially enrolled, but was enrolled at Potosi Catholic School. Encouraged by his family, he found his passion for the sport early. “I’ve always been a big kid,” he said, mentioning a trait that naturally lent itself to football.
By his sophomore year, Tobin realized that football was where his true talent lay, and he began focusing on it over basketball. The game gave him a sense of exhilaration and confidence. “It makes me feel amazing as a young adult. The adrenaline rush is incredible, especially seeing everyone in the crowd. It’s fun to be the center of attention,” he shared.
Throughout high school, Tobin wore #75 and consistently demonstrated his skills on the field. In middle school, he had been assigned this number; then in Tobin’s freshman year, he picked #75 to keep the tradition going. His sophomore year marked a turning point when he started in the game against Darlington after another player got hurt, and he played against Blackhawk, a team that had a huge impact on him. The highlight of his career came during his junior year in the state championship game against Edgar on November 21, 2024, an experience that remains unforgettable despite PC’s loss in that game. Coach Siegert played a key role in Tobin’s development. Described as faithful, hardworking, trustworthy, relentless, and supportive, Mr. Siegert inspired Tobin and helped him realize his potential both on and off the field.
Tobin’s high school career was filled with accolades, including First Team All-State, All-Region, Offensive Lineman of the Year, First Team All-Conference (offensive and defensive line), and First Team Dubuque Telegraph Herald All-Area. Despite having opportunities to continue playing after high school, William decided to enter the workforce, not wanting to spend four years at a small college.
From a motivated sixth grader to a celebrated high school athlete, Tobin’s football career is a testament to talent, hard work, and the support of those who believed in him.
