Potosi High School has a lot of welcoming classrooms. Most of them are spacious with rows of desks and tables, lots of students, and teachers leading classes. One room in the high school is a little different from the rest.
The “study room” in Potosi High School is a top pick as many of the students' favorite rooms in the school. Only high school students are able to use the study room, and usually only students who take Southwest Tech classes online are allowed. That is their designated spot to study for those classes.
The study room includes a couch, a desk with two comfortable chairs, and a long table with a couple of stools. Sometimes it is used for storage as well. It is a small space, but very useful. It is located near the high school gym and Mr. Eastlick’s classroom. It was previously in a different room closer to the rest of the classrooms. It was moved at the start of the 2025 school year to accommodate special education needs.
The productivity in the study room varies throughout the day. “Since I'm in three Southwest Tech classes, I get to be in the room three times a day, so I usually get all my work done in the first class of the day so I can relax the rest of the time,” senior Ryleigh Meier explains. She also adds, “it offers relaxation with the comfy chairs and the couch. It is a very stress-free environment.”
The study room often gets pretty crowded with students. “Sometimes I catch myself talking more than doing work,” Meier says. Senior Damian Bauer agrees. “I talk to the other students there after I get my work done.” Senior Alex Friederick disagrees with them. He does not get distracted in the study room; he says he stays on task.
Although the study room is a great space, students think it could be better. “If I could add anything to the study room, I would add a mini basketball hoop,” Friedrick jokes. Bauer states, “I would add windows so I can look outside and it would feel less enclosed.”
Meier says she only has one issue with the study room: “I can never hear the morning announcements or any other announcements throughout the day. I think there needs to be a speaker in the study room to keep all of the students informed.”
Overall, the study room is a great place for students to do their work without stress. “Without the study room, we would have to go to the cafeteria while the elementary students are eating, and that can get distracting,” Meier explains. She thoroughly enjoys being in the study room, even if she does not have much homework to do. Friederick agrees. “I would rather be in here, too, because the cafeteria is freezing.” The study room is a top choice for students at Potosi High.
