When the final bell rings, some teachers head home, but two Potosi staff members head straight to the Milwaukee Brewers’ stadium, where their love for the team is just as strong as their love for education.
Becky and Kurt are both educators at Potosi High School. Becky is a 9-12 high school math teacher, and Kurt is the Superintendent of Potosi School District.
Kurt was a big fan of the Brewers growing up, and when Kurt and Becky started dating, they attended many games. Going to those games frequently as a young couple has now become a tradition in their family.
Becky and Kurt currently have the 20-game season ticket package. With season tickets, they get the same seats for as long as their game pack is valid. Fans can also purchase additional tickets if needed, with no processing fee, as well as special seating options that may be more affordable than the standard price.
There is no waiting list for season tickets; all it takes is a simple phone call to the stadium to select the desired ticket plan, as well as seating options. The seating option that Becky and Kurt currently have is the club level, and they have chosen the same section seats for over 15 years. This section seating is currently limited, meaning that non-season ticket holders can buy tickets in that section, but not the selected seats Becky and Kurt have chosen. Another option is to conduct an “open seat walk-through,” allowing ticket holders to enter the stadium and select the seating they prefer. This option is only available once a year.
Season tickets, of course, have perks, such as if wanting to go to a different game on a different day, anyone can simply exchange those tickets for the game they are looking to go to for no cost; however, if the game is in an upcoming month, there is a small charge for it. When purchasing the tickets for the upcoming games, the ticket price ranges from five to fifteen dollars cheaper than the original prices.
Of course, with any sport, there is going to be a favorite player. Becky has always had a superstition about liking a player, because once she likes one, they end up getting traded to another team. However, Kurt’s favorite player has always been Cecil Cooper, who retired in 1986. Becky and Kurt have two children, Sam and Summer. Sam likes Ryan Braun, who retired in 2021. Summer likes the current manager of the Brewers, Pat Murphy.
Summer is now 20, while Sam is 28. Although they have grown up, they still attend games with their parents, just not as often. Although Kurt and Becky are the ones with the pass, Sam and Summer can still use it for their individual use, whether they want to go to a game with their friends or even by themselves.
A big question that has everyone wondering: how do the Cohens manage the balance of school life and game life, when drive time is two and a half hours? Recently, Friday night game times have changed to 6:30 pm, which plays in their favor because they no longer have to leave during school hours to make it to a game.
Opening day and the playoffs are a big deal, so they take personal days to go support. Not very often there is a weekday game in their ticket package, but if it does happen and it's a big rival game, Kurt and Becky will go, returning to school the next day tired but ready to give their all.
