Bowling club

Mrs. Haverland started teaching in Potosi in 2021 as the art teacher. Since then, she has brought new opportunities to the school for students and kept already-formed clubs in place.

Junior Logan Rausch asked Mrs. Haverland if she would start a bowling club at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Haverland started working right away to get this started. She reached out to people she knew who were involved in bowling and got Potosi in the Southwest Wisconsin High School Bowling League. The league is funded by local donors who share a love for bowling. Students can bowl at no cost to them. There are currently seven students from freshmen to seniors on Potosi’s club team. Fireball Lanes in Lancaster, WI, sponsors them and lets them use the lanes and equipment. Mrs. Haverland is a USBC Certified Level 1 coach and plans to take the class to become a Bronze level coach this spring.

Line dancing is another club that Mrs. Haverlad helps with. Junior Ava White started the club, and Mrs. Haverland volunteered her room because it is big enough for them to practice. Mrs. Haverland does not participate in this, but she loves watching them dance. There are about five to ten people every time they get together. The club is not school-sponsored, so there does not need to be a teacher when they go line dancing. They usually go to the fairgrounds in Dubuque on Wednesday nights.

The Art Club was a club before Mrs. Haverland got here, but she has opened new opportunities for them. Potosi is an active, competitive team in the Visual Arts Classic. It starts as a regional competition and moves to the state level. She has changed the way the art club operates over the past few years to make it a low-stress environment. She brings in chips and salsa for their meetings, which they have about twice a quarter. The members help with setting up for the art show at the end of the school year, fundraising, and other events throughout the year.

Overall, Mrs. Haverland has been a great person to have as a teacher. She gives opportunities to all the students and is always willing to try out something new.
