The WFCA All-Star game is a game where the best athletes from around the state come together to play a competitive game of football, while the athletes are all required to fundraise $750 for Children's Wisconsin, an independent healthcare system dedicated to the well-being and health of kids.
There are approximately 6,000 seniors in the state of Wisconsin who play high school football. Of those players, there are 228 seniors representing six different teams, broken into North and South, large school, small school, and 8-man. Out of those 228 seniors selected to play, three of them came from Potosi. Seniors Isaiah Groom, Aidan Uppena, and Oliver Post were allowed to put on their golden helmets one last time.
Senior Isaiah Groom said that he was selected for the game by being good at football and putting in the hard work when needed, which was agreed to be the same for Oliver Post and Aidan Uppena.
They were presented with the question of how they felt about being on the team. Isaiah replied, “I feel very honored to represent Potosi/Cassville, and I am excited to put on the PC helmet one last time.” Aidan agreed with Isaiah, while Oliver added that it is exciting because they will be playing with some outstanding athletes.
One of the most special things about it to them is that they were all selected, so they will be able to play with each other one last time. Groom states, “It really shows the type of program we have here.”
When given the question of who inspired them the most throughout their journey, Groom explained how he has always wanted to be better than his four older brothers, which gave him something to work for. He added, “None of them made the All-Star Game.” Post responded that he was inspired by all of the former upperclassmen throughout his high school years. He says they mentored and inspired him to be who he is today on the football field. Uppena stated, “I was inspired by my brother Logan, because we played the same positions, and I always wanted to be good for him.”
The game will be played on Saturday, July 20th, at noon in the UW-Oshkosh Titan stadium. Donate and support your local athletes as they compete with the North.
