The FFA poultry judging team at Potosi has been an absolute powerhouse the past two years, and they are looking to add even more prestige to their name.

The poultry judging team was formed just last year by a group of FFA members who were looking to find a new contest to participate in. Mrs. Brunton approached them and said that they could do poultry judging, which had never been done before at Potosi. They decided to try it out, and in just their first year, they qualified for the state-level contest, where they placed seventh overall.

This year, they came in with three out of four contestants returning and very high expectations for their year. “I fully expected them to move on to the state contest, but I did not expect them to place second overall in the regional contest,” said Mrs. Brunton. The regional contest took place at UW-Platteville on March 21, 2025.

“I walked into the contest and took a look around, and knew from that moment I was the smartest person there,” quipped senior Ryan Stoney. Everyone was confident, and they knew that they would do what they went there to do. The poultry team finished second overall in the regional poultry judging contest at UW-Platteville, moving on to the state contest in Madison, where they placed twelfth in the state.

On the other side of this joyful time in the poultry team, there is Kyler Hefty, who saw how much success and fun the poultry team was having and decided to try and join. Kyler was denied a shot at making the team by the “Founding Fathers” because he did not have time with his busy schedule to put in the necessary work in order to keep up with the high standards they had already set. This shows how difficult and how competitive it really is just to be a part of these successful teams.

If you see a member of the poultry team, tell them good job, but if you see Kyler, make sure to give him a hug and a pat on the back.
