In the fall of 2025, four Potosi High School Seniors, Hope Hasse, Serena Flores, Courtney Jepperson, and Conner Jepperson plan to attend UW-Madison.  All four have strived academically during their time in high school and have earned their place in Madison through challenging themselves.

Throughout their time in high school, they have taken high-level classes and been involved in extracurricular activities which have prepared them for college and forced them to work hard. Serena Flores, who plans to major in biology with a pre-med track, says, “With taking AP classes, college classes, and doing extracurricular activities, I was able to obtain better time management skills, get a taste of college-level school work, and pick a career that I think will suit me based on how much I liked certain classes. Hope Hasse, who plans to go into pharmaceutical science, says, “ I chose to attend college at UW-Madison because I have had many family members attend this college who thoroughly enjoyed their time there. UW-Madison also has amazing facilities that gear towards sciences and healthcare.”

They all applied the same way to UW-Madison, which was pretty simple but lengthy. First, they applied for early acceptance and they all had to write two essays about why they are unique and why they wanted to attend UW-Madison.  They provided background information and their high school transcripts, which included their college-level courses. Next, they paid a $75 application fee and created a NetID account to get any new mail from the university. They were all notified on the same evening that they had been accepted to UW-Madison.

All four students are attending UW-Madison with different career paths, but all have the same goal: to help others.  Courtney Jeperson, who plans to go into speech pathology, says, “I chose this career because I love helping people and I want to work with kids. I also liked the flexibility of the career and the fact that you don’t have to work on an extremely tight schedule. After doing a job shadow, I knew I wanted to do that.” Courtney is most excited to make new friends and is excited about the experiences.  Serena Flores says, “I want to challenge myself to a tough field to go into. I like helping people, and doctors make good money.” Serena is excited to see what the future holds for her and will use her talents to help others.  Hope Hasse says, “I picked this career because I have always wanted to do something in the healthcare field and enjoyed chemistry when I took General Chemistry and AP Chemistry. I was able to combine both of these passions into a career. I have always wanted to be able to help people and impact their lives. Becoming a pharmacist will help me fulfill this desire.” Hope is driven to push herself academically and to grow as a person every day.

These students have bright futures ahead of them, and they will likely make a positive difference in the health of their future clients.
