Basketball season is well underway and the Potosi Chieftains are looking solid so far this year. To get an inside look at the basketball team, I interviewed Michael Christianson, who is a new student this year at Potosi High School who decided to play basketball for the first time since 6th grade.
The first thing I wanted to know about Michael was why he decided to join the team since he hadn’t played in so long. “I wanted something to do in the wintertime to stay active and in shape,” stated Michael. “I like that the basketball program at Potosi makes you work hard to succeed and do better to get more playing time.”
Since Michael transferred to Potosi this year, he is only eligible to play on the JV team. Although the season didn’t start exactly how the Chieftains wanted, Micheal said, “It was a little rough the first couple of weeks, but other than that, it's been getting better lately and we have been improving. Our record for JV is currently 2-3.”
Michael has not played basketball since 6th grade. He said, “I like playing basketball now and really wish I hadn’t quit when I was younger because I could be much better.” The advice he gives to underclassmen is, “Make sure you work hard for what you dream of.”
When asked about his favorite part of playing basketball, Michael said, “My favorite part is the bus ride home after the games if we win. My favorite memory was going to Milwaukee and stepping on the floor at the Bucks’ stadium.”
Michael stated that he is happy he transferred to Potosi and has been really enjoying it so far.
