Bob and Connie Haberkorn are great people in our community. They are always willing to try new things and help their community in any way possible. Connie got her first job at age 16 as a CNA in a nursing home. This set Connie up for the life she is living today. She currently works full-time in the HR department at Southwest Technical College.

Besides working full-time, she participates in several committees including the Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Board, the Southwest Tech Foundation Board, the Wisconsin Technical College Consortium (WTCEBC), the Potosi School Board, the Potosi Rescue Squad, and the Platteville Chamber of Commerce. She is also a valued member of the Lancaster Presbyterian Church and a tri-county HR board member. It was hard to understand and get into detail with her roles in each of these organizations because she participates in a lot. Connie always says, “I will try everything once” and she has lived up to that every day with her wide-ranging community involvement.

Bob started working when he was 12. He mowed grass over the summer and shoveled driveways and sidewalks in the winter. As he got older, Bob started thinking of ways he could help the community. He opened his own bait shop, Catfish Bob’s Fish Market, in 2000, and also began plowing driveways in the winter. He plowed driveways for 43 Potosi residents for ten years. The bait shop is still up and running, but Bob has slowed it down because of how hard it is on his body. Besides running his own business, he also drives buses for Potosi Schools, takes food to sporting events, volunteers at the church, takes some family and friends fishing, and works full-time driving trucks at Bard Material in Dickeyville.

In their free time, they enjoy spending time with their families and spoiling and supporting their grandchildren, including my brothers Gavin, Preston and me. They can also be found watching sports; most of the time, it will be Potosi Cheiftans or Lancaster Flying Arrows. Basketball is the main sport they watch, because their grandson Gavin Wunderlin played on many AAU basketball teams, and his cousins enjoy basketball just as much as he does. They also attend dance recitals, plays, school concerts, and musicals.
