Joe Haas

Joe Haas is currently a senior at Potosi High School and has always had a passion for football ever since he was young. Joe explained what made him want to start playing football in 7th grade: “My dad was a big football player, and ever since 4k, I've had a football that I would play with at recess.”

Throughout Joe’s younger ages, he always loved playing football because he really enjoyed playing with his friends and winning games. Haas is now a 4-year varsity letter winner. When asked what it was like, he replied, “As a freshman, I was pretty nervous playing in a varsity football game, but after a few games, it just became natural.”

To prepare for the 2024 football season, “I went out for track my junior year and ran, which made me a lot faster. Starting back in June, me and some close friends would go up to the field a few times a week to run routes and do simple drills to get better.”

Haas had a standout 2024 football season with the Potosi/Cassville. As a versatile player, he excelled as a running back and linebacker, contributing significantly to the team’s success. As the starting running back for Potosi/Cassville, “I would go into every game with a positive mindset, trying my hardest to fire everyone up.”

Potosi/Cassville finished the regular season undefeated and clinched the Six Rivers Conference title for the fourth year in a row. In the playoffs, Joe’s performance was critical; he rushed for 86 yards in the sectional final against River Ridge, helping secure a 21-14 victory. Haas also rushed for 148 yards and one touchdown in the WIAA Level 1 matchup against Blackhawk/Warren.

Haas contributed to the team’s offensive power, rushing for 1,156 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns over the course of the season. During the WIAA Division 7 state semifinal against Kenosh St. Joseph, Haas made a memorable play, catching a 21-yard pass from quarterback Dawson Weber that helped secure Potosi/Cassville a 26-15 victory.

Despite falling short in the final game against Edgar, Haas and Potosi/Cassville demonstrated remarkable teamwork and skill throughout their memorable 2024 football season. The team’s “Find a Way!” motto perfectly captures their season, as they fought through injuries and challenges to finish with an impressive 13-1 record, ultimately reaching the state championship game at Camp Randall Stadium.
