Student Hair Is a Fashion Statement

When you walk into a high school, there are certain things about the school and specific students that stick out. Students at Potosi like to be creative and expressive, especially with their hair. Some dye their hair different colors, grow it out, shave it all off, grow a mullet, or get a perm. Gunnar Stappert got his first ever perm in January of 2019, and it lasted until around July of 2019. He got a perm again in October of 2019, and he still has it. Gunnar explained that a  perm, “usually lasts about three months before the curls start coming out.”

You would think that there must be a special hair care routine he must follow to keep the curls looking fresh. “I wake up in the morning, take a shower, wash my hair, and after I get dressed and everything, I put some moose in and just let it dry.” This doesn’t seem to be too complex to have some stylish hair. Gunnar’s perm gains him a lot of attention around the school, “people touch my hair a lot. Everyone usually says it’s really soft and they like to play with my hair.”

Stappert’s inspiration for his perm came from the depths of his own mind, “I just wanted to try something new.” And there it was! He was bored with his natural hair; having the same hair for 16 years can get old, so a perm seemed like the perfect fix. Gunnar has fallen in love with his permed hair and prefers it over his natural hair.

Hair grows out, and Gunnar’s hair is no exception. I wondered how a perm would look best, with long or short hair? “I like it when it’s in between. I like my curls to have hang time, but I don’t like it too long,” Gunnar explained. The length it’s at now is his preferred length, so if you see Gunnar Stappert wandering the halls, instead of being in class, give his hair a second look.
