Brayden Edge is a 2023 graduate of Potosi High School. Edge was involved in FFA, and he was a very good football player; in his senior year he played defensive end and tight end. He earned first-team all-conference in both positions.
Throughout his high school years, Edge worked for his dad packaging mushrooms. Edge got to utilize the school-to-work program; this allowed him to work and develop real-life skills throughout his high school career. Morel Masters buys and ships mushrooms all over the country. “We buy mushrooms from people around here,” said Edge. They also sell mushrooms in Platteville sometimes, so if you see him, be sure to stop by. “Yes I plan on taking over the business one day,” expressed Edge. They also are trying to set up a storefront location where you can go and buy the mushrooms any time.
Edge Graduated in May of 2023. The summer after graduating, Edge didn’t waste any time. He decided to get a job at Epic Construction. All summer, Edge had to wake up at 4 am to go to the job site. “I worked with the steel crew; we roofed and set precast,” said Edge. The Epic steel crew that Edge was on worked at 1 Up in Dickeyville, WI, Guys Truck and Tractor in Galena, Illinois, and a couple of places in Cedar Rapids, Iowa that summer.
“I planned on going to the tech for the welding program,” said Edge. The program is a 7-month program where you learn how to weld from the ground up. Most people, after graduating the tech, have a job already or get a job easily from their schooling. Edge wants to get a job at John Deere, or a tig shop. “My favorite welding is tig welding,” said Brayden. Edge is currently enrolled in South West Tech and will graduate on May 17, 2024. Brayden plans on taking off work to fill his mushroom orders, but he is not yet sure how he will balance his job and his future business.
