Sam Udelhofen

Sam Udelofen knew what he wanted to do by the time it was his senior year. He knew that he wanted to go to Platteville. He knew he wanted to be in the construction industry. Sam graduated from Potosi High School in the class of 2023. He was a three-sport athlete, and he was an elite player in all three sports. Sam also participated in FFA, showing pigs at the Lancaster fair every year. Sam also made some projects in the Potosi shop; in his senior year, he constructed a whole deer hunting shack.

The summer after graduation, Sam decided to work for Epic Construction. He was put hard at work right away, waking up at 4 a.m. to make it to the job in Cedar Rapids by 6 a.m., and not getting back to Potosi until 5 p.m. By putting in these long days, Sam was able to save some money for college.

Sam had already decided to go to college at UW-Platteville. “It is close to home and a one-of-a-kind campus full of friendly people. It is also very affordable,” Sam said. This allowed him to live at home and save money. Still living at home gives him the freedom to do what he loves and go hunting a lot during the fall of the year. After many hours in the tree stand, day after day, Sam got the opportunity to harvest a mature 8-point buck during bow season this past fall. “I was absolutely thrilled when I shot my buck,” said Sam. During gun season he also took down two mature does to top his freezers with meat.

Sam decided to study Construction Management at UW-Platteville. He said, “It is cost-friendly, and it is a booming industry right now.” Sam plans on being hired right out of college to get started making some money. “I plan on getting an internship with a company,” said Sam. Sam also works in the construction industry right now.

Sam still has almost four years of school still to go; he is starting the second semester of his first year of schooling. He still has a lot of time to decide what he is going to do after college. If you ask him now, he “Plans to live around the Potosi area, buy a house, then eventually build.” Sam will be an avid hunter until the day he dies, hopefully harvesting many more deer in the future while working in the construction field.
