Graduation is an exciting and scary time for seniors, but leading up to graduation there is a lot of stress that the seniors go through. One major situation that seniors go through is all of the “lasts”. For some it is the last time playing a sport, the last school year being with the people you grew up with, the last high school dances, and sometimes the last time sitting in a small class. Even though we try to focus on the good times, there is always the constant stress that goes with being a senior.

“Where are you going to college? What do you want to go to college for? Are you ready to move on?” These three questions are ones that seniors get asked over and over again, but for some, they are stressful questions because they don't know the answers to them yet. Many seniors struggle to apply to colleges, apply for scholarships, and worry about graduation. The major obstacle that has seniors struggling is the essays that go into applying for colleges and scholarships. Many do not know how to answer the questions and overthink their answers or simply do not have the time to sit down and write a two-page essay about their life. Senior Sydney Recker said, “I have not had much time to sit down and really think about it because I have musical practice, volleyball practice, and I am getting confirmed.”

High school impacts us a lot in who we want to become or who we think we are as a person. Senior Sydney Recker said, “Through high school, I was able to find things that I enjoy, like going bird watching with Mr. Eastlick, or going soil judging with Mrs. Brunton.” There were a lot of situations that this year's seniors went through that many graduating classes didn't. We came into high school after being out of school for months because of COVID-19, but when we did come back we had to adjust to a whole new routine and wear masks on top of it. But, Senior Natalee Fried said, “High school helped me to get a set schedule, which will help me a lot in the future!” So after all of the different routines we have been through we are able to adapt to many different routines.

Many seniors are excited to move on and start their lives, but there are a lot of memories to be made during our last year at Potosi High School. We have all of the fun times in the student sections at sporting events, our last times being hyped up by the crowd for sports, our last performances in the play or musical, and our last high school dances. There are a lot of events that happen in one year and a lot of fun that goes into being in high school.

Even though high school is a lot of fun there are always things that are there besides all of the lasts that we are going to experience, there is also not having to take finals in the spring and the stress of whether we are making the right decisions for our lives moving forward. So many people worry about whether they are making the right decisions at times, but in the minds of seniors, it is if we are making the right college decision, right degree decision, or even if we made the right class decisions for our last year in high school.

Even though there is a lot of stress in the life of a senior, there are still so many things that we experience along the way and those are the events and memories that could possibly make high school the best years of our lives. Senior year is full of many emotions for everyone involved, but Graduating is exciting and just a small milestone in our lives.
