Sam and Emily

Being an athlete in any sport takes much responsibility and dedication because in high school, not only is it just the sport but school work is still required to get done throughout the whole season. Being a three-sport athlete can make things much more challenging. A three-sport athlete has to stay in shape and be committed to sports all year long. In our senior class, there are three student-athletes who participate in three sports.

Sam Udelhofen and Logan Kruser have both been a part of the football, basketball, and baseball programs since their freshman year. Emily Bierman has played volleyball, basketball, and softball for her four years. All of them had a similar point of view with their experience; Bierman claimed she has more free time than one would think, but obviously having sports pretty much year-round is still quite a commitment. With her time off between sports, she enjoys golfing and partaking in other outdoor activities. Kruser also enjoys golfing in the summer, as well as helping with the youth recreational baseball teams. Udelhofen enjoys hunting more than anything else outside of school.

Sam and Emily both believed basketball stood out more than any other sport they play. For Logan, baseball is his favorite. Bierman’s most cherished memory is winning regional champs in volleyball in 2021. For Udelhofen, the basketball Regional Championship when they beat undefeated Wauzeka in 2021 was his favorite. Kruser gave me three memories he cherishes, one from every sport. The basketball Regional Championship, winning a conference title in baseball, and winning conference alone this year in football all stood out to him equally.

These three student-athletes have all kept a 3.5 GPA over their high school years. They all have collections of individual awards decorating their walls as well.

Sam Udelhofen has been quite successful in his four years, earning 1st team all-conference in all three sports, 2nd team all-district for baseball, and Wis-sports three-sport athlete of the week. He is also a part of the 1000-point club in basketball, which is a very rare accomplishment at Potosi.

Logan Kruser earned 1st team all-conference infield, honorable mention all-district infield, and academic all-district, all for baseball in 2022. He also earned academic all-state in football in 2022.

Emily Bierman earned 2nd team all-conference in volleyball, honorable mention in volleyball, honorable mention in basketball, honorable mention in softball, and she was on The Telegraph Herald’s All-Area team in volleyball and basketball.

All three of these students have a year-round commitment to these sports, all while balancing school, work, and their life outside of school and sports, for four straight years.
