4 Year Old Kindergarten Program

June 10, 2019

Dear Parents,

Potosi School District is excited to share some anticipated changes to our 4-year-old kindergarten program for the 2019-2020 school year. These changes are slated for discussion and approval at the June 24 school board meeting.  This letter serves to inform parents of these anticipated changes so that families of children entering 4K have time to plan for the new fall schedule.

The first recommended change is that Mrs. Jenna Schroder will be teaching our 4K students this fall.  Mrs. Schroeder has been teaching first grade for the past several years and Mrs. Jill Davis, our current 4K/ECE teacher will be moving into a full-time elementary special education position.  The second recommended change is that our 4K program will be a full-day, everyday program.  This full-day program will provide a morning focus on school readiness while the afternoon will provide play-based social-emotional learning opportunities.   For families wishing to only send their child a half day, this will be possible if families are able to provide a mid-day transportation home.

There is increasing evidence that quality full-day learning opportunities are beneficial for young children.  As a result of this evidence, our state is proposing to fully funded all-day, everyday preschool programming in the public schools.  In anticipation of this added funding, Potosi Elementary School is embracing the opportunity to expand our 4K programming.

If you have any questions regarding this change, please contact the school office 608-763-2161.

Yours in Education,

Potosi School District
